Cooking

Classes

A group called the Kyoto Cooking Circle provides a very good opportunity to learn how to cook Japanese food. They meet regularly on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It costs 1500 yen for Japanese Nationals and 1000 yen for foreigners, a very reasonable price which includes ingredients. There is also a vegetarian menu, and for better or for worse, you get to eat the fruits of your labours. Dishes are based on themes and changed on a monthly basis. At the class, recipes are supplied in English, and people are on hand to help. The only thing students are required to bring is an apron and a towel. To attend a class you should contact them at least two days in advance. Information, application forms and a map can be found on their website. Classes take place at Wings Kyoto near Karasuma, between Shijo and Oike.
